Photographing a live band performance in London

Our journey into commercial photography all started with band photography back in two thousand and … gosh, I’d rather not think about it as it makes me feel pretty old, but early 00’s at some point! It’s been a while since I managed to get myself down to a gig in London, but a bit of luck got me a ticket to watch one of my favourite bands, Tall Ships, playing a private release show at Cheap Monday store on Carnaby Street, which has sadly now closed it’s doors to the public.

At one point in our creative journey, music was huge for Hax and I. To be honest, it’s still a huge part of my life and plays a really big role in my creative photography and also influences my approach to street photography. depending on what I’m listening to when I out shooting.

Live Music Photography

I’ve been a fan of Tall Ships from back when they were playing to crowds of 50 odd in pubs around Shoreditch about 6/7 years ago. These guys progressed massively selling out shows around the UK and some of London’s top venues. It’s been a pretty long time since I’d seen the guys play a live show and even longer since I’d had the pleasure to see them play in such a small venue! The set was ace and the fact that they were playing in the middle of a store was like nothing I’d ever seen. Their new track Meditations On Loss is awesome so if you haven’t watched it yet, give it a quick listen.

[UPDATE]

Since writing this blog I’m sad to say that Tall Ships Band are no longer performing together as a band, according to DIY mag. Their brilliant music is still available on Spotify so be sure to check them out.
